Global Entrepreneurship Summit-2017: JKEDI holds conference on creating ecosystem for startups



The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) in collaboration with NITI Aayog and The Global Education and Leadership Foundation (tGELF) Friday hosted an international-level ‘Conference on Creating an Ecosystem for Startups’- the first of its kind in the State.

The conference held here was part of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), India -2017 to be jointly hosted by the Government of India (GoI) and United States of America (USA) in Hyderabad from November 28-30.

Many similar conferences termed as ‘Road to Global Entrepreneurship Summit India 2017’ are currently being held across India and the conference at JKEDI was the first of its kind to be held in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The conference started with a special panel discussion on ‘Role of Entrepreneurship Education’ in which senior journalist Dr. Shujaat Bukhari, senior journalist, Masood Hussain, Muhammad Ashraf Mir, President Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK), and Muzaffar Majeed, Joint Secretary Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) participated as panelists.

In his address, Director JKEDI, Dr. M I Parray briefed the gathering about the role of entrepreneurship in a state like Jammu and Kashmir and ways and means to achieve better end results. He informed the participants about the role JKEDI has been playing to lessen the burden of unemployment in the State. Dr. Parray stressed on the need of creating an ecosystem for entrepreneurship development and said the conference regarding Global Entrepreneurship Summit in collaboration with the NITI Aayog shall go a long way in making that ecosystem rich.

Chief Executive Officer tGELF, Gauri Ishwaran also addressed the participants and affirmed her resolve to continue to work with JKEDI for entrepreneurship development in the state.

Mission Director Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, Ramanan Ramanathan was the chief guest on the occasion while Tassaduq Mufti, Coordinator, Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra also participated in the conference as a Special Guest.

In his plenary address, Ramanan said he was hopeful that an incubation centre under Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) will be established in the state of Jammu and Kashmir to provide an inclusive environment for entrepreneurship and innovation.

Mufti stressed on exploring sustainable entrepreneurship opportunities in the State and promotion of creativity and innovation focused to fulfil the local demand.

Vice Chancellor Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Prof. Mushtaq. A. Siddiqi was also present on the occasion and he spoke on the role of entrepreneurship education. More than 20 students from Delhi Public School (DPS) also participated in the day-long conference.

Global Entrepreneurship Summit is being organized to inspire the culture of Entrepreneurship and share the inspirational nature of prosperity throughout the United States, India and globally, the “Road to GES” series is aimed to partner, build and engage upon entrepreneur events from September through November and beyond.
